About Me

Joseph
Hello! I’m Joseph, and I’m happy that you are exploring the world that is Art of Boardgaming!

As you look around you will find tons of information about strategy boardgames, primarily in the eurogame category.

For those who are new to gaming, AoB will show you how games:

  • Engage the mind
  • Enhance social gatherings
  • Encourage creativity
  • Encompass a wide variety of themes and styles

For those who already love eurogames, AoB aims to:

  • Showcase great gaming options
  • Shed light on upcoming releases
  • Share my thoughts an opinions on boardgaming topics
  • Shamelessly plug my favorite games

I’ve been a certified (if not self proclaimed) “Board Game Geek” for more than a decade now. I try to never give up the opportunity for a game night and I’m somewhat of an evangelist for the hobby…thus this website.

And guess what? You’re here – so it must be working.

Each week you’ll find new content about games!

Gaming 101 — I’ll write a lot about gaming tips and tricks, from how to choose the perfect game for your game night, ideas on how to introduce newbies to the hobby, and pointers on the best way to explain the rules of a new game to your game group.

Reviews — Know for sure whether or not you should add that next game to your closet with AoB Game Reviews. You can trust me to give my honest opinion on any game and once you understand what games make me tick, you’ll have a good idea as to whether or not the game in question is worth the investment.

My Thoughts and Opinions — My dad once told me: “You’re opinionated.” Now while I’ve gleefully ripped that quote fully out of context it doesn’t change the fact that it’s true. So since I have created this little platform for myself you can bet that from time to time I will use it for my own devices. However, you can be 100% certain that the Thoughts and Opinions expressed on this blog will all remain on the gaming topic… I’ve got enough opinions there to keep me busy for a while.

WIKI — As the website progresses I’m creating a WIKI to go with it. Anytime you come across a gaming term in this blog that you don’t understand you’ll be able to find it in the wiki!

A little bit more about the guy on the other side of the monitor

After 8 years (almost to the day) in the TV industry as a photog (that’s a fancy way of saying Camera Man), I parted ways with that line of work and joined my wife’s business as the Project Manager of KB Creative Media LLC. and Creative Savings. I grew up in central New York but currently live in beautiful Southwest Florida. If my addiction to German cardboard didn’t make me stand out enough from my friends already, Kalyn and I also have a house pet… rabbit named Cody, who interestingly enough, loves cardboard for an entirely different reason.

My Family

Along with being annually disappointed by rooting for the Minnesota Vikings and working on fun video projects I also enjoy:

  • Sunny Beaches
  • Hanging with my neices and nephews
  • Long car trips
  • Binge Podcast Listening

  1. Joe,
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for having this blog! I am a 48 year old woman. Do you know how hard it is for me to find a game I can play? My partner and I have tried playing some board games but they seemed so difficult to learn we gave up. So thank you for your blog and all the information you put into it. Finally somewhere we can look to for tips, advice, etc. I do have one question for you. We recently bought Xcom the board and this is one of those games we were excited to play…but the instruction and the video tutorial seems to go on forever. We just want to play the game! Any tips, advice, or links to make learning to play this game easier or quicker?

    • Hi Iris! Thanks for the encouragement! Xcom is not a game that is in my collection yet and I’m not super familiar with it. However when it comes to Video Tutorials of how to play a game – I personally don’t think anyone does it better than Rodney Smith on the Watch It Played Youtube Channel. I just went over and checked and he does have 2 videos for Xcom. It seems to be a pretty involved game so between the two videos it is 50 minutes – however, Rodney’s videos very rarely feel long because he is very engaging!

I hope that helps, and thanks for reading AoB!
